Is there more to life than this?

Much of the time most of us are so involved with the detail of getting on with our lives: work, family, friends, sport, shopping, etc. that we hardly have time to think about what it is ultimately all about.

But every now and then, we may wonder whether there is really more to life than this constant round of activity. Such thoughts may be triggered by positive things such as the birth of a baby, a lovely holiday, or receiving an act of kindness. Alternatively they may be triggered by health issues, bereavement, loneliness, stress or boredom. Knowing where to start in exploring these big questions – however they have been triggered – can be difficult. So we often carry on with the busyness of our lives without spending any time considering what it all means.

It has to be worth spending at least a few hours exploring and questioning the meaning of life. As a Christian, I believe that we can find real answers in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I have found the Alpha course an excellent way to explore life’s big questions with different groups of people and to see what answers the Christian faith has to offer. It’s fun, relaxed and free, and you can ask anything you like.

We will be starting an Alpha course at Hartley Wintney Baptist Church on Monday 16th March from 12:45pm until 3:00pm. The course will run every Monday (except Bank Holidays) through to Monday 22nd June. Each week, we will start with lunch followed by a video talk and discussion groups. The first session is very much a ‘taster’ to give you an idea of what the course is like so you can decide whether you want to attend the rest of the course. The whole course, including the lunch, is entirely free of charge.

If you would like to join us for the taster session on 16th March, or would like any further information, then please contact me

During the past year, I have watched three musical films. Bohemian Rhapsody is a biopic of the late Freddie Mercury featuring the music of Queen (which reminds me of my student days). Yesterday is a
